i love LOVE love LOVE love this – Prada’s latest fragrance campaign has been done as a series of animated comics, based on the wants and needs every girl has in terms of her choice in fragrance. i love the simple color palette and super-simple expressive language. this is fun. this is stuff you WANT to read – whether it’s in print or online.
the role of Candy (real-life) has been played by Léa Seydoux, and now she’s been brought to life in comic form by talented illustrator Francois Berthoud.
busy week here. but exciting. obviously work is non-stop two-way traffic. it’s great. i’m loving the pace. i’m loving everyone’s energy and dedication. and i’m loving being back in the ‘ideas seat’. my soul is rapidly recovering from wanting to throw itself into a rusty meatgrinder in aid of escaping boredom.
meanwhile, i had a moment of bravery a week or so ago, and signed ChicBones Vintage up to be a part of the Vintage Experience Autumn Harvest Market at Truth Coffee in Buitenkant Street tomorrow eve at 5pm onwards. I’ve never been a part of a market, set up a stall, or anything like that. yeah, it’s ‘informal trading’, but i feel nervous. silly, huh? Luckily i was up in Johannesburg this weekend for a little family visit and i managed to convince my mum that the Wits Hospice is a cool hangout. we had a lot of fun actually, and i sourced so much cool crap that i found it hard not to keep the lot for my personal wardrobe. really, there are so many gems up there. i was thinking of taking a buying trip up there later on in the year. my mum’s obviously in.

so yeah, going to spend the night in a cinderella-like fashion – sorting garments, cutting and pinning labels, and just planning how i’m going to set up this store and make it a nice little space to visit. i’ve hired a friend of mine to take all stock to the venue and actually do the major set-up for me, as i’m going to be in an edit approval session for a tv commercial i’ve been working on. THERE’S SO MUCH GOING ON ALL AT ONCE! AAAAAAAHHHH!
wish me luck. i’m pooping myself. and if you’re in the area, please come say hi.
and here’s a really old favorite of mine just for fun. one of my favorite love songs of all time…
so it’s been a pretty cool time. i spent last week shooting a tv commercial up in johannesburg. i think the work is pretty good and can’t wait to see a final edit – although that’s weeks away. i’ve missed this. it’s good to be back in the production process. that’s what comes with working in a good ad shop. i have also learned that once you get in, DO NOT leave until you are saturated with that particular brand of knowledge. i stress this after wasting a year at a mickey mouse establishment. i thought my brain had died altogether. it’s also quite interesting how my sense of self worth was affected entirely by this one facet of my life. it proves to me, yet again, that my priorities are placed in a moderate place, a good place that i respect. family: creating the distance i need. i need it. there’s too much pain for me to go on pretending it’s all normal. they think i’ve forgotten, but i can’t. i can’t seem to medicate it out of myself, and i’m not a ‘cutter’. so distance seems a good middle ground. i often think about what it would be like to be born into a totally orphan-like situation. yes, it wouldn’t be ideal, but i would never carry the weight of my family’s guilt and low emotional iQ. they’re killers, i tell you.
reading this:
it’s fucking great.
i’ll be uploading what i’ve read in the last twelve months sometime soon, for those of you who give a shit and haven’t crossed over to Kindle.
it’s not very often that a pair of shoes will knock my socks off. hehe. sorry. i had to. no, really, it’s actually pretty hard to find incredible shoes in south africa, especially when it comes to concept, design and of course, quality. i guess that’s why these amazing flamingo design shoes from Olive Thomas are not south african. sigh. if you look at the pictures below, you’ll basically see my dream shoe. a classic, moderately-heeled court-style shoe that’s got enough personality to turn a goth into a style icon. oh, flamingo shoes, how i wish you were mine. you are so fine. i will cease to dine. just to affoooooooooooooord you.
This recipe is right up my alley – winter comfort food. I’m just going to replace the turkey with chicken and voila!
I am desperate to start doing things like this to my kitchen! I just need my own kitchen so that I won’t be vexing any landlords.
I’m not a vegetarian, but I’m guessing that this would be an interesting read anyway – especially for global consumption statistics.
It’s a bit pricey at USD7, but this pattern is so versatile, it can be used for every season. I love the vintage feel and the binding around the pockets.
