dark enough

Photos at The Fridge, Dubai

people. my people. i went to a live band/spoken word gig at The Fridge last night and it was brilliant! I especially dug the spoken word by Halla Alli – seriously talented individual! her style made me want to laugh and cry and jump around all at the same time. i actually had to pick my jaw up off the floor when i found out that it was her debut performance. she was born to do spoken word performances. she’s inspired me so much that I will be attending Poeticians this Saturday. I hope to learn a thing or seven about writing from a deeper place than just the need for a catalogue, as well as how to read words properly out loud and allowing them to reach their full potential. i am excited. i feel like i’ve found something i really really really really want to get into – properly. even if it’s just a case of watching for a while.

I took my camera along as well, in the hopes of snapping something of interest, and i was rewarded with an amazing lighting setup that had been placed to highlight some of the artworks they had on display. i really love these shots – how the darkness is framing the light, the silhouetted people, and the violent colour of the artworks. i don’t find the artworks particularly inspiring (apologies to the artist) but they served my purpose every well.

ladies and gentlemen, i give you some of my best shite photography yet:
